A
new report from MessageLabs, a spam-filter provider, lists the states that received the most spam emails in the first six months of 2008.
Here's the Top 10 Spammiest States:
- Illinois
- South Dakota
- Oregon
- New Hampshire
- Wisconsin
- North Carolina
- Indiana
- Texas
- Pennsylvania
- Alabama
No word from MessageLabs on why exactly these states were at the top of the spam heap, although the report said these states "may not place as high a
priority on [information technology] security overall or employees and
businesses may be more willing to share their personal contact
information in public domains. When e-mail addresses are openly
available, spammers take advantage of it."
Spam made up 86 percent of all email traffic in the United States in June.
If you're really looking to escape those unwanted emails, apparently you should move to
Montana. In that state -- which got the lowest spam score in MessageLabs' survey -- spam only accounts for the low, low rate of 77 percent of all email.
