State officials said Monday they will wait until the National Transportation Safety Board releases its investigative report on the Merrimack Valley gas explosions before deciding if any additional state hearings or oversight are warranted.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo, D-Winthrop, said one of his first reactions was to immediately call for hearings.
But on second thought, he said, he realized there are federal government investigators already on the ground.
"I think it's best we wait at this time to see what some of the initial findings may be, and from that maybe that's something we might be able to build upon or learn from in terms of what we should be looking at as well," DeLeo said.
