Here's a twist on FEMA Bashfest 2005: the mayor of Pembroke Pines, Fla., proposes creating a "mini-FEMA" for his city.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that Mayor Frank Ortis was pretty frustrated with how food, water and ice got distributed after Hurricane Wilma. Next time, he doesn't want to wait around for FEMA to do the job.

His plan? Contract with a private firm to provide supplies within 24 hours of a storm. Distribution points would be set up throughout the city. "The frustration after Wilma was that we couldn't get supplies for seven days," Ortis said.
