The Canadian city of Edmonton -- a leader in waste management -- is looking to turn a profit from its expertise by getting into the trash consulting business, reports The Globe and Mail.

Using $1.1 million in start-up money from taxpayers, the city formed an agency called Waste RE-Solutions to offer its knowledge of garbage, recycling and e-waste to cities around the world. With more people moving into urban areas, many cities are looking to overhaul their waste management systems to handle the increased amounts of trash and pollution. The agency has already reportedly reached a framework for a deal with Beijing.
