Online matchmaking has come to government. The two agencies in charge of awarding $7.2 billion in stimulus funds to broadband projects have launched a new Web site, BroadbandMatch, to bring companies, nonprofits and state and local governments together. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the USDA's Rural Utilities Service are looking for programs that will expand broadband access and adoption, and think online matchmaking could encourage applicants to combine their expertise with others to create stronger proposals. Interested parties can join BroadbandMatch by filling out a profile that includes key information about the contribution they can make to a broadband project. Once they've joined, they can search for community partners whose skills and resources match their needs, and create proposals for broadband service in areas of the country that really need it.
