Roberta Schaefer was the founding executive director of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, a center for information and expertise on public policy in central Massachusetts, and has been its president and CEO since 2008. She also has overseen a successful regional government performance-measurement project initiated by the New England States Government Finance Officers Association.

Schaefer was a member of the Massachusetts Board of Education from 1996 to 2007 and served as its vice-chair from 1998 to 2001. She has co-edited two books and authored many articles in professional journals, and she is frequently called upon to testify before local, regional and state committees.

She holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago.
