Hey, municipalities! Interested in improving your city? New York City deputy mayor Daniel Doctoroff has you covered.

Doctoroff addressed the conference this morning, and he told attendees that the Bloomberg administration has defined the seven factors of effective municipal management.  Here they are:

  1. Vision
  2. Strategy
  3. Effective delegation
  4. Accountability
  5. Fiscal responsibility
  6. Communication
  7. Urgency

Hey, is that all?!  Get on it, cities!  What's your problem??

Seriously, though, while NYC's seven factors first struck me as a little...um...broad (and second as a little...self-evident), Doctoroff then went on to describe how the city has actually used them very specifically and effectively.

I guess the point is that, sure, a seven-point plan sounds really great, but you have to actually implement that plan on a very specific basis.
