Behind the Lens: Bike-Share Brings Ford Full Circle

Photos and musings from our photographer.

Ford Bikes
(David Kidd)
Henry Ford put America on wheels. His first car, the Quadricycle, rode on four bicycle wheels and managed a top speed of 20 miles per hour.

More than 100 years later, his namesake company is putting people on bike wheels again -- but this time, just two. Ford Motor Company -- recently rebranded as a “mobility company”-- has invested in a 250-station bike-share program dubbed “Ford GoBike.”

The two-wheelers are built in Detroit, less than eight miles from where Henry assembled his first car, before being shipped to San Francisco.
