Buying a Gun in Ohio Just Got Easier

Ohio concealed-carry permit holders no longer need pass a federal background check to purchase firearms, the office of Attorney General Mike DeWine announced.

Ohio concealed-carry permit holders no longer need pass a federal background check to purchase firearms, the office of Attorney General Mike DeWine announced.

DeWine’s office struck an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for an exemption from the mandatory instant background check required by federal law prior to purchasing handguns.

“Ohio concealed-carry license holders who are in good standing have already passed through state and federal background checks so there is no reason to force them to submit to additional checks if they want to buy a firearm,” DeWine said in a statement.
