Wrongful Hiring? The Mistake That Prompted a Delaware City to Remove Its New Ethics Commissioner

Almost as soon as an ethics commissioner was nominated to the Wilmington Ethics Commission, the city removed him. 

Denison Hatch, a Highlands resident and former member of the commission, was named last week by Mayor Mike Purzycki for reappointment to the city's ethical oversight panel.

But when Hatch saw the press release, he noticed an error next to his name: Republican. 

Hatch is a registered Democrat. The seven-member, unpaid commission may not have more than four members who are affiliated with one political party, city code states, and Hatch would've been the fifth Democrat.
