Nursing Home Deaths Prompt Florida to Issue Emergency Regulations

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced in a Saturday press release that he is directing two agencies ― the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs ― to implement emergency rules for all assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced in a Saturday press release that he is directing two agencies ― the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs ― to implement emergency rules for all assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Included in the rules: “All assisted living facilities (ALFs) and nursing homes must obtain ample resources, including a generator and the appropriate amount of fuel, to sustain operations and maintain comfortable temperatures for at least 96-hours following a power outage,” Scott announced in the release.

Earlier this week, eight residents of a Hollywood nursing home died after the facility lost power in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
