Amazon says it will collect sales tax on items sold to customers in Vermont starting next month.

Amazon says it will collect sales tax on items sold to customers in Vermont starting next month.

The internet e-commerce giant announced last week that it will begin collecting the state's 6 percent sales tax on Feb. 1.

Officials with the state's tax department say they're happy with the change. They say it will create more equity between local stores and online retailers.
