2013 marks the centennial of Grand Central Terminal, New York City’s iconic train station built during the heyday of rail travel and considered a marvel of both engineering and architecture. The story of Grand Central -- its celebrated beginning, long decline, near loss and subsequent restoration -- is also the story of many other American rail stations that were once all but forgotten, but have found new lives as urban transit hubs.
