Profitable Bowl Championship Series Bowls Get Public Aid



An Arizona Republic investigation has found that three BCS bowls -- Sugar, Fiesta and Orange bowls -- have accepted public funds. These bowls pay no taxes since the bowl operators are nonprofits, and executive salaries have gone up in recent years. The Republic reports that bowl officials defend the subsidies as bowl games are economic drivers, attracting tourists and their travel dollars to local economies.
