NYC Increases Security After Terror Attack Warning

Police increased security measures at transit hubs around New York City on Thursday, hours after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that his security forces uncovered a plot to attack its transit systems.

Still, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner William Bratton said the NYPD’s Intelligence Bureau found “no specific credible threat” against the city or its subway system.

“We are convinced that New Yorkers are safe, and residents should go about their business,” Mr. de Blasio said.

Messrs. de Blasio and Bratton’s comments came after they took a subway ride from the City Hall station to Union Square to assure New Yorkers that the city was safe. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Tom Prendergast, the chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs the subways, took a separate E line subway trip from the World Trade Center stop to Penn Station. They too held a news conference after.

“We believe that our state of preparedness is higher than it has ever been since 9/11,” Mr. Cuomo said. “The agencies are working better together than they ever have been.”
