He also called on fellow Republicans to come up with an alternative to Obamacare, and said the escalating crisis in the Middle East is partly the fault of President Barack Obama, who doesn’t “stand up” for Israel.
Christie, who chairs the Republican Governors Association, is heading to Iowa on July 17 to raise funds for the group and otherwise boost his GOP colleagues.
He was considered a potential frontrunner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination until earlier this year when scandal involving traffic jams damaged his administration. But he has not ruled out a run for the White House.
“I’m gearing up to win as many governors races as I can this November, and I’ll make decisions about running for president after that,” the New Jersey governor told reporters Saturday at a meeting of the National Governors Association.
