No surprising additions or omissions were included: Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman will appear on the Republican ballot, according to a letter sent from the state's bipartisan 2012 Presidential Preference Selection Committee to the Government Accountability Board. As expected, President Barack Obama is running unopposed.
Wisconsin's April 3 primary falls after Super Tuesday on March 6, when 11 states will hold their nominating contest, but before the primaries in 18 other states, meaning crucial delegates could still be on the line. Maryland, Texas and the District of Columbia will also hold their elections on April 3, according to USA Today.
Primary candidates in Wisconsin are determined by the bipartisan selection committee. They make selections based on "candidates whose candidacy is generally advanced or recognized in the national news media," according to the Government Accountability Board, but are permitted to include other names at their discretion.
