The letter -- signed by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels -- was addressed to the co-chairs of the committee, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas.
The governors asked for flexibility in reforming Medicaid spending and reduced regulations to jumpstart the economy. But most urgently, they warned of the damage that could result from costs being shifted to the states and the dangers of increasing taxes.
