Internships at Governing
Every spring, summer and fall, Governing looks for enthusiastic and dependable students who are interested in working as editorial research assistants. The internships are particularly suitable for students wanting to learn more about publishing, journalism, political science and public administration.
Editorial responsibilities typically include reporting and writing 300- to 1,600-word articles, assisting with fact-checking and research projects, compiling charts and graphs, proofreading, and reviewing online newspapers and other resources for potential news and story ideas. Occasional administrative duties provide an opportunity to become familiar with our business operations.
Governing has a small staff of editorial, production and advertising personnel, and we arrange time for our interns to observe and talk with people in each of these departments to get an overview of all aspects of publishing.
The internships are non-paid, but provide the opportunity to work and write for a national magazine. We'd be glad to cooperate with a department's guidelines to help students earn college credit.
