Honoring Those Who Gave Everything

To honor the lives of firefighters and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, ICMA-RC established the Vantagepoint Public Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Approximately 100 firefighters are killed in the line of duty each year, and, since documentation began in 1792, more than 19,000 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty. To honor the lives of these employees, ICMA-RC established the Vantagepoint Public Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund provides financial aid for post-secondary education to the surviving children and spouses of firefighters and police officers as well as to those of non-uniformed local and state government employees who have died in service to their communities. Scholarships in amounts of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students who plan to attend a two- to four-year accredited college, university or vocational school. Since its inception in 2001, the fund has awarded more than 200 scholarships worth more than $600,000. Applications are accepted annually from December 15 through March 15. ICMA-RC is a private, not-for-profit corporation, created to manage and administer retirement plans for public-sector employers and employees.
