When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, the city's communications infrastructure--Internet, radio transmissions, cell phones--went black. The incident underscored the need for multi-agency collaboration to prevent future communications infrastructure failures, and as a result, Washington State launched the Puget Sound Alliance for Cyber Security portal last year. The Web site addresses communications and infrastructure needs in the region by creating collaboration opportunities for local, regional and federal organizations. The portal serves as a place for the cyber-security community to develop action plans, post events and find information on best practices, policy, guidelines, training and other resources.
