GPP

Grading the Governments is a collaboration among some of the country's leading universities and foundations with GOVERNING to provide a management report card on the performance of state and local government.

Under the auspices of the Government Performance Project (GPP), states have been evaluated on their management practices related to information technology, personnel and human capital, finance and budget and statewide infrastructure. State studies debuted in 1999 and were repeated in 2001, 2005 and 2008. In addition, special studies of state tax systems (2003) and health care (2004) were conducted in the intervening years.

Grading the Governments also involved cities in 2000 and counties in 2002.

Planning has begun for the next cycle of Grading the Governments. We welcome your input and recommendations.
