Nominating Women in Government for the Leadership Program

Governing magazine and the Governing Institute are seeking 25 outstanding elected women officials in state or local government for a year-long fellowship program. The program includes two retreat-style conferences, one DC-based roundtable and a feature in Governing magazine. The curriculum will include valuable leadership and management sessions with insightful and provocative speakers. Networking and relationship-building with other women leaders as well as mentor training is also a central part of the program. Meet the inaugural Class of 2015.

Criteria for selection include the following (nominees do not need to address all the criteria):

  1. Outstanding performance in current role
  2. Has demonstrated leadership throughout career
  3. Shows personal integrity
  4. Showcases a deep commitment to public service
  5. Cares about the role of women in government
  6. Has specific and documented accomplishments and successes
