The nation’s health and human services priorities are being reshaped by multiple forces: population trends and demographic shifts, new health threats and rapidly evolving technologies, emerging policy approaches and changing regulatory requirements.
These forces present some of the biggest, most urgent challenges for states and localities, and they’re also giving rise to some of the smartest, most transformative innovations in government. Advances in systems integration, information sharing, and data analytics – and the technologies that make them possible – are empowering HHS leaders and providers to improve services. However, these are also the forces that continue driving costs in the largest spending category for state governments and pose some of the biggest challenges to state and local governments.
