The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is offered at public policy schools in most parts the country. The MPA is the dominant professional, terminal degree to prepare students for careers in public service, including mid career professionals seeking advancement in governmental agencies, other public entities, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and not-for-profit charities. Built around a core curriculum of public finance, public management, public workforce, public policy and planning, research and analysis, economics and managerial accounting, performance management and measurement, and leadership and ethics, the MPA lends itself to interdisciplinary investigation and expertise in the full range of public service — including but not limited to social work, public safety and criminal justice, public health and human services, education, regional planning and community development, budget forecasting and auditing, and policy development and law.
