  • Description

    The Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies (PAUS) at The University of Akron exists to enhance the quality of public service through civic education, training and research. To meet that goal we offer a variety of degree programs, certificates, courses, seminars and workshops. If you are interested in furthering your career, providing better services to the public, or developing a broader civic perspective, we may have events, programs and degrees that fit your needs.

    The Department offers four Masters degrees and a Ph.D.

    1) The Master of Public Administration is a 48-credit-hour degree that prepares students for careers in public and nonprofit management. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, the program offers specializations in emergency management, nonprofit management, evaluation, and urban management.

    2) The Master of Arts in Urban Studies is a 33-credit-hour degree that focuses on applied policy. The program offers specializations in health policy and aging policy.

    3) The combined Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration is 109-credit-hour degree for students seeking training in both the legal and public service fields. Students must be accepted to both programs to participate.

    4) The Master of Arts in Geography and Urban Planning educates students for a broad range of careers in the planning and geography professions.

    5) The Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Studies and Public Affairs is a 64-credit-hour joint program of UA’s Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies and Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Urban Affairs. This program prepares students for academic careers and for public service careers. Specializations in public administration and in public policy are available.
