Why Did the Ostrich Cross the Road?

Ba_ostrich_no_credit Officials at the Golden Gate Bridge can add a new section to their online gallery: photos of the increasingly large and exotic animals crossing the famous suspension bridge between San Francisco and Marin County.

Racoons, squirrels and skunks are regular commuters. Yesterday, it was an ostrich. Seems the big bird fell out of a cargo van, bringing traffic to a screeching halt.

Last fall, Governing reported on a deer (fourth item)that dashed across the Golden Gate Bridge during morning rush hour.

No word on whether any of the critters paid the $5 toll.

About

Written and compiled by staff writers and editors, GOVERNING View is an on-the-ground, and sometimes behind-the-scenes, look at the topics we're covering in print and online. From notes on what's up in statehouses, county courthouses and city halls, to encounters with people, places and things, GOVERNING View is a window into the side of state and local government you don't always see.
