"SayWa" is dead. The State of Washington's nonsensical tourism slogan lasted only six months before officials retired the five-letter failure. Let the record show that it took the state 18 months and 32 people to come up with SayWa and that hundreds of thousands of dollars have already been spent using it in tourism campaigns.
"Not Unlike Oregon" is sure to convey some positive, if unoriginal, emotions. "A Starbucks on Every Corner" would at least be truthful. "Our Team Deserved to Win the Super Bowl" gets across the emotions of Washington residents. My preferred generic slogan would work here too: "No Slogan Needed."
But Washington Governor Christine Gregoire may have been onto something when she contrasted her state with the nation's capital at a Governing conference earlier this month. "The Better Washington" would make a provocative slogan.
