The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Alderman Todd Stroger, the Democratic nominee to replace his father as Cook County Board president, has donated $8,000 to a Nation of Islam splinter group that says African Americans should not be taxed but instead be set up with a separate state of their own.
That doesn't mean Stroger shares those ideas, his spokesman told the paper. "The donation is a reflection of mutual respect," he said, "like so many in the African-American community."
