Streetfood Details has a roundup and a slideshow of some of the tastiest street food in the nation -- everything from tamales to "sparerib tips tossed in tangy black-bean sauce" to some amazing, heavenly goodness called "bacon jam."

Needless to say, it's a whole lot more than hot dogs (although the list does include some great-sounding franks).

As I wrote in this month's issue of Governing, street food in the U.S. is really branching out. Many cities --  from Portland, Oregon, to Washington, D.C. -- are actively trying to recruit new vendors, especially ones that will serve items other than the standard franks and pretzels.
