The Washington Post commented on Barack Obama in an editorial this weekend: "He is inclusive, forgiving and inspiring -- but can the nation afford a president who was toiling in a state legislature a scant four years ago?"
There's a legitimate debate to be had as to the extent to which state legislative experience prepares someone to be president.
From the Post's tone, though, you'd think serving as a state legislator was something truly awful, like being a professional mime or a member of the media.
