Should You Be Allowed to Sell Your Organs For Money?

There's a national shortage of kidneys, and thousands of people die each year waiting for donors.

One possible (though, to some, unpalatable) option would be to make it legal for organ donors to be compensated.

Drew Carey think that's a great idea. He hosts a video blog at Reason.tv (affiliated with the liberterian magazine of the same name). In this post, Carey makes the case for a free market for organs.

(Look!  I got through this whole post without a The Price Is Right for Kidneys joke! Or a Whose Kidney Is It Anyway? joke!)

About

Written and compiled by staff writers and editors, GOVERNING View is an on-the-ground, and sometimes behind-the-scenes, look at the topics we're covering in print and online. From notes on what's up in statehouses, county courthouses and city halls, to encounters with people, places and things, GOVERNING View is a window into the side of state and local government you don't always see.
