Len Munsil's Modesty

Every person I asked in Arizona a couple of weeks ago told me that Len Munsil, the gubernatorial candidate who won the Republican nomination last night, would offer the toughest challenge to Governor Janet Napolitano, except one: Len Munsil.

He said that this line was just Democratic spin. He also cautioned me to wait until the Democrats publicized his writings from college. That isn't to say he was suggesting that one of his three Republican opponents could give Napolitano a closer race, just that electability wasn't central to his primary campaign.

By the way, in the Arizona Senate contest I previewed yesterday, the moderate, Carolyn Allen, prevailed 55%-45%. But a conservative won a closely watched Republican primary for the U.S. House, so the results don't lend themselves to any clear conclusion about how immigration is playing.
