New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg is getting a lot of attention over comments he made to WCBS-TV this week, in regards to the (barely nascent) plot to blow up pipelines at JFK Airport:
"There are lots of threats to you in the world. There's the threat of a heart attack for genetic reasons. You can't sit there and worry about everything. Get a life." ...
"You have a much greater danger of being hit by lightning than being struck by a terrorist," he added.
Certainly, in terms of statistics, death-by-terrorism is one of the least likely things to happen to a U.S. resident. Most of the commenters on the New York Times' Empire Zone blog -- commenters who are presumably mostly NYC-area residents -- seem to agree. Most of them are saying the mayor's bluntness is honest and refreshing.
