Another Day, Another Cause

Dtplogo I know, I know, it's tough to keep up.

You're probably still reeling from National Peanut Butter Cookie Day. And you're just now getting over National Fly A Kite Day (which, btw, is apparently completely different from Kite Day). And don't even start in on International Picnic Day.

But here's one more to add to your calendar, one that has a slightly more weighty message. Thursday, June 21 is National Dump the Pump Day.

Organized by the American Public Transportation Association, Dump the Pump Day is an effort to get people out of their cars and on to public transit. Over a hundred state and local transit agencies are participating in the initiative, which is in its second year.

So, hey, take the bus to work on Thursday. It's cheaper, it saves you gas money, and it helps the environment. (Here are some more facts from the APTA.)

I mean, look: It's either this or National Go Skateboarding Day.

About

Written and compiled by staff writers and editors, GOVERNING View is an on-the-ground, and sometimes behind-the-scenes, look at the topics we're covering in print and online. From notes on what's up in statehouses, county courthouses and city halls, to encounters with people, places and things, GOVERNING View is a window into the side of state and local government you don't always see.
