30 Dem Govs?

Note that the five states where Josh reports the governor's race is still in doubt -- MN, RI, NV, AK, ID -- are all held by Republicans right now.

That means that Dems, who already have 28 governorships, could have more than 30 before the dawn. I don't think we've mentioned Oregon Governor Kulongoski's reelection, incidentally.

Governors don't vote, so numerical majorities among them are fairly meaningless, but that's a big gain after starting the night with 22.

About

Written and compiled by staff writers and editors, GOVERNING View is an on-the-ground, and sometimes behind-the-scenes, look at the topics we're covering in print and online. From notes on what's up in statehouses, county courthouses and city halls, to encounters with people, places and things, GOVERNING View is a window into the side of state and local government you don't always see.
