AC Wharton Jr., our September cover subject, has been leading a big field in the Oct. 15 special election for mayor of Memphis. He won't be hurt any by receiving the endorsement today of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, which cites his experience, fiscal frugality and leadership on issues such as dealing with infant mortality and at-risk youth.
