Watch Out, Nebraska

It's good to see that newspaper reporters still have a sense of humor. From the Denver Post:

Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien's in charge these days, but don't worry, she has no plans to invade Kansas.

Nebraska, well, hmmm.

O'Brien signed two bills into law Monday and took plenty of ribbing about what she plans to do with her temporary powers while Gov. Bill Ritter is out of the country.

"I have had a lot of people ask me who I'm going to pardon," O'Brien said. "I keep telling them if they're in prisons, fine with me, but there are a few people I'd like to throw in prisons if we could waive just a few constitutional protections."

About

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
