SurveyUSA released a poll of Oregon yesterday that gave Obama a large lead (not very surprising) and Democratic Senate challenger Jeff Merkley a moderate-sized lead (somewhat surprising). The number that stood out to me, though, was the percentage of likely voters who have already voted: 50%.
The poll was conducted over the weekend, so, by now, a majority of Oregonians have already voted. Oregon is the only state where everyone votes by ballots received in the mail (except for a few people with disabilities that require them to vote in person).
If they prefer, Oregonians are allowed to drop their mail ballots off on Election Day at elections offices. But, from the looks of it, people in Oregon are as eager to get this election over with as everyone else.

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
