TX-GOV: New Poll Shows Hutchinson Lead

Back in December, an internal poll for Kay Bailey Hutchison showed the U.S. senator ousting Texas Gov. Rick Perry 55%-31% in a 2010 Republican primary. At the time, Perry's campaign scoffed at the poll to the Houston Chronicle:

Perry pollster Mike Baselice, while declining to release figures, said the governor's team has its own poll showing that in a Republican primary, "He beats her like a drum."

However, a new survey this week from Public Policy Polling was strikingly similar to the Hutchison campaign's internal. It showed Hutchison leading Perry 56%-31%.

If the Perry campaign disagrees with this finding, they should release their own numbers. Otherwise, they'll have to concede that it's Hutchison who is the percussionist and Perry, at this very early stage of the campaign, is playing the part of the drum.
