As could have been anticipated, National Public Radio's quiz show "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" had a field day this week with Spitzer. They even managed to make "lieutenant governor" sound dirty.
The show is based in Chicago but tours and this week's show was done in Pittsburgh. Often, governors of the states they visit will appear on the show. Ed Rendell showed up this week and gamely if reluctantly took on the topic of Spitzer and whatever else they had to throw at him.
He also did pretty well a few weeks ago on an even more provocative show, HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." It's easy to criticize Rendell for being blunt and for saying whatever's on his mind without the usual political filter, but his appearances on these politico-comedy shows demonstrated his ability to think on his feet, not to take himself too seriously, and to give as good as he gets. Rendell enjoys politics and crowds and he's not afraid of either.

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
