Pawlenty Not Running for Reelection

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is expected to announce in about two hours that he will not run for a third term next year. Speculation turns to the question of whether he'll seek the presidency.

Update: Pawlenty makes it official.

"My focus is going to be on the next 19 months, finishing my term out strong," he said at a news conference. "Beyond that, I don't know what my plans are.

"I don't have any plans beyond serving out my term. I'm not ruling anything in or out."

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
