Obama's "Finest Governors"

President Obama's taste in governors is a bit different than that of the people of California, Michigan and Massachusetts. NBC's Chuck Todd explains:

Pres. Obama gave shout-outs to three governors who attended today's Rose Garden announcement on the new national car emission standards. He called Governors Jennifer Granholm (D-Mich.), Deval Patrick (D-Mass.) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) some of the "finest governors" in the country. Interestingly, majorities of residents in all three states don't seem to agree with the president on this issue.

...

For those wondering, the three governors have a COLLECTIVE job rating of 34%... but who's counting.

In fairness to Obama, most governors have lousy approval ratings these days. Unless he's going to spend all of his time meeting with Arkansas' Mike Beebe, he's going to have to meet with unpopular governors.

By the way, if Schwarzenegger really thought his ballot measures had a chance to pass today, wouldn't he be campaigning in California?

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
