Not Trying But Not Dying

Scampbell_2 Florida Democrats are disappointed that it looks like former Sen. Skip Campbell, the party's 2006 nominee for state attorney general, will drop out of his race against Sen. Jeff Atwater, a Republican in line to serve as the next Senate president. They thought Campbell had a good shot, but his late departure may leave them without a strong candidate.

Campbell says he'll decide for sure by July 4, citing those familiar "personal reasons" for opting out. But he makes it clear to the Palm Beach Post that those reasons aren't super serious.

"I am not dying," said Campbell, an attorney who lives outside of District 25, which includes parts of northern Broward County and eastern Palm Beach County, but owns a townhouse within it.

About

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
