New Poll Favors McCrory

A new poll examining possible general election matchups in the North Carolina governor's race suggests Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory would be the GOP's strongest candidate.

McCrory ties the two leading Democrats, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and N.C. Treasurer Richard Moore; either matchup results in a 41-41 tie. But either Democrat would beat any of the other three Republican hopefuls by about a 10-point margin.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 720 likely voters on Feb. 18. The margin of error is 3.7 percent. Full results here.

We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
