Democrat Bev Perdue has won the North Carolina governor's race according to NBC. This is a really impressive win for Perdue, who is North Carolina's current lieutenant governor. Pat McCrory, her Republican opponent is the mayor of Charlotte who has a moderate reputation. He really was the most formidable candidates the Republicans could offer.
Looks like Perdue has silenced the doubters (who included Greenblatt and myself). The governor's races won't be the silver lining for Republicans -- it will take a win in Washington for them to break even.

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
