Via CNN: With about 1% of precincts reporting, Obama has 55% of the vote and Jill Long Thompson has 48% in Indiana. That gap may be slightly smaller than I expected, but it's still bad news for Long Thompson and good news for Gov. Mitch Daniels.

To put it a different way, if that gap persists, Obama would have to take 57% in Indiana for Long Thompson to take 50%. Obama, even on his best night, isn't taking 57% in Indiana.

About Politics

GOVERNING Politics is the new home of staff writer Josh Goodman's Ballot Box blog. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
