Hulshof Opposes the Bailout

Several dozen congressional races could be affected by yesterday's bailout vote -- and one race for governor. Congressman Kenny Hulshof, the Republican nominee for governor in Missouri, joined most of his party in voting against the bailout. From KMBC:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Missouri GOP gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof explained his vote against the Wall Street bailout on Tuesday.

...

Hulshof said the $700 billion figure was "excessive." He said Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson just wanted a big number. Hulshof said what Congress needs is a big number for the bailout, but not that big.

Like Hulshof, most members of the House in competitive races opposed the bailout.

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
