Down the Road

Election2010_2 Lou Jacobson previews some of the 2010 races for governor, looking largely through the lens of their potential effects on redistricting (which, as we all know, is the only thing that governors or legislators do that matters).

The RGA is seeking to raise enough money this year to carry a substantial amount into the 2010 cycle. In 2007, the group raised $21.5 million and carried over a record $9.5 million into this year. In the first quarter of this year, the RGA raised over $7 million and reported $14.65 million on hand -- amounts that satisfy RGA officials who are focusing on the 2010 plan.

And the DGA is trying to double its 2006 war chest of $14 million for the 2010 cycle, DGA spokesman Brian Namey said.

About

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
