Speculation that John McCain might pick Florida Gov. Charlie Crist as his running mate is picking up predictable steam, not just in Florida but in the international press.
Our sister blog, The Buzz, has put up a Crist "veep-o-meter." The St. Pete Times (The Buzz's mother ship) and Florida blogs have run pieces noting the governor's frequent out of state political travel.
"Crist has acknowledged the downside risk at appearing to be detached from his elected duties," Steve Bousquet, capital bureau chief of the Times, tells me. "He says he'll be discreet about how frequently he campaigns out of state."

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
